Open Letter to (Some) Neurotypicals
ADHD? Empower yourself with this letter, or give it to the neurotypical of your choice.
Neurodiversity is a term coined by Australian Sociologist Judy Singer (in her sociology honors thesis, in 1998) with the intention “to name the emerging social movement for #Neurominority rights“, as she states on her twitter account @Singer_Judy.
In other words, neurodiversity is not a medical term and it should be used with care.
The term became popular thanks to US journalist Harry Bloom (with whom Judy corresponded with) when he published “Neurodiversity. On the neurological underpinnings of geekdom” in The Atlantic.
Judy Singer is actively writing at her own blog at https://neurodiversity2.blogspot.com/.
